This central zone of Boise that once housed Basque hotels and meeting places for Basque emigrants has been rehabilitated and transformed into a pedestrian zone that includes places to have a drink, taste Basque food or visit with friends on a patio. The Block also includes the Basque Museum and Cultural Center, the Basque Center, Leku Ona Restaurant, the Anduiza Hotel and kantxa, and the Bar Gernika among other establishments.
It is an area lavish in symbols, nods and motifs related to the local Basque culture. Giant lauburus adorn the ground, along with posters and notes that explain aspects of the history of Euskal Herria or Basques in Idaho. A Tree of Gernika grows in the garden of the Jacobs-Uberuaga Boarding house, in a place where gatherings, festivals and Basque concerts take place, especially during the summer. Along with exhibits, classes, workshops and gatherings related to Basque culture insides its buildings. All of this now conditioned, but not cancelled today by the pandemic.
