Chivilcoy, Argentina. The Basques in Chivilcoy are going non-stop since July 7 marks its 30th anniversary and its members and friends have decided to celebrate the occasion “fittingly,” that means reaffirming their commitment to cultivate and spread the Basque culture as well as to take advantage of these times to share with friends. This is why Beti Aurrera has put together the following program over the next few months. The first event takes place on June 7 aimed at the enjoyment of a typical Basque meal, as well as its preparation like during a tasting. The following are activities that have been scheduled as part of the festivities:
JUNE
-June 7, 6:00 pm. Gastronomic meeting of Basque cuisine and tasting carried out by Chef Eduardo Olivetto. Pintxos, txistorra, seafood and dessert will be prepared. Cost of the ticket is $100.
-June 28, 6:00 pm. Talk on Basque genealogy, “What the Son Wishes to Forget, the Grandson Wants to Remember,” by Laura Nobile. Free admission.
-June 30, 16:00 pm. Celebration of San Juan and burning of the Sorgina. At the Basque club
JULY
-July 6, 30th Anniversary ceremony by the dance and Euskera groups. Reminders sent to former members.
-July 13, Solidarity event organized in conjunction with the dance group. The proceeds will be donated to a community institution. Performance by the dance group.
-July 28. Anniversary dinner. Entertainment Manager Luciano Rocha. Tickets on sale. Discount available for club members
In addition to the anniversary events club is also anticipating further activities in August that will be announced later on. Tree of Gernika literary contest
Also as part of the anniversary activities, Beti Aurrera has opened a call for the second edition of the Tree of Gernika Poetry Contest. The contest, organized in conjunction with the Argentinean Society of Writers – SADE, is directed to anybody residing in Argentina, the theme is open. Deadline to enter is July 31 and contest rules are available here.
