Reno, Nevada, USA. The Center for Basque Studies at the University of Nevada, Reno has organized its annual writing contest for 2021. Texts must be original, unpublished and in English on Basque topics, Basque culture, life of Basques in different countries, or anything else related to Basques. Works may be submitted between February 1st and September 30, 2021 at 6pm (PST). Names of the winners will be announced in November. Please read the exact rules at UNR CBS's webpage.
The contest is co-organized by the William A. Douglass Center for Basque Studies (CBS) at the University Of Nevada, Reno, and the Basque Studies Program at Boise State University (BSU).
Winners in the 2020 edition were “Three Wives’ Tales," by Dale Erquiaga; second place, "What Amatxi Whispered," by Zoe Bray; and third place went to, "80 Years Ago," by Jean-Baptiste Hiriart-Urruty.
Prizes 2021
-First Prize: $500 Center for Basque Studies Press gift certificate for the winner and publication consideration
-Second Prize: $150 Center for Basque Studies Press gift certificate and publication consideration
-Third Prize: Basque literature and classics gift pack and publication consideration
Rules
-Submissions must be original and unpublished manuscripts
-Submissions must be in Microsoft Word or printed on hard copy and more than 10,000 words and less than 100,000 words
-Submissions should be clearly identified and accompanied by a cover letter (or email) that includes the entrant’s name and contact information. No contact information should be included on the actual submission
-Entries will not be returned. Please only submit copies
-Submissions can be in any genre, including but not limited to: literary fiction, short story collections, creative nonfiction, memoir and children’s literature
