Boise, Idaho, USA. The Cenarrusa Foundation headquartered in Boise has created and awarded the first Cenarrusa Foundation Award this month. The Pete T. Cenarrusa Award went to two well-known individuals in the US Basque community, cultural activist Anita Anacabe Franzoia from Nevada, and Lehendakari Juan Jose Ibarretxe. The new award will be presented annually to an individual or entity that stands out in the promotion of Basque culture and public service, in memory of Pete Cenarrusa’s career.
Awardees may be from the US, or abroad. Annual nominations will be from October 1st-November 15th and results will be announced on December 16th, Pete Cenarrusa’s birthday. The award includes a work of art and a cash prize of $1,000.
Roy Eiguren, member of the Cenarrusa Foundation’s board of directors, explained to the Elko Daily Press that each of the honorees stood out for their integrity and extraordinary commitment to working in favor of the Basque language and Basque identity, as well as for the promotion of human and civil rights, with tenacity, volunteerism and a public service career filled with humility, honesty and ethics
