Caracas, Venezuela. Last Sunday’s get-together began at the clubhouse with mass celebrated by Aita Odriozola SJ in memory of members and friends who had recently passed away María Luisa Iglesias de Pernia, Iñaki Baroja and Victor Elkoro.
As Pedro Javier Arriaga Aguirre, club president told EuskalKultura.com, after mass and since Tree Day was celebrated in Venezuela the weekend before, “In our Basque club we don’t let such important dates pass, since it is a reminder of the importance of protecting wooded areas that help regulate temperature, purify air, contribute to rainfall cycles and protect the soil that contains diverse ecosystems, without forgetting its aesthetic value to our environment.”
The tree that was chosen by the Eusko Etxea, which has large area, including in various green zones, was the Apamate or Trumpet Tree, typical in Venezuela “that when full-grown offers a beautiful show when blossoming creating a spectacular pink blanket,” concluded the club president.
