Every year, more Basque clubs celebrate Saint John in South America.  Despite the cold, or maybe because of it, remember that June is a winter month in the southern hemisphere; the bonfires at these celebrations are the stars of the event.  Today in EuskalKultura.com, we provide a photo gallery of San Juan festivities at some of the club in: Buenos Aires, Bahia Blanca, Chivilcoy, Las Flores, Mar del Plata, Montevideo, Necochea and Viedma-Patagones.

Buenos Aires, Argentina.  Last weekend marked the celebration of San Juan in the Basque Country.  As is tradition, also at Basque clubs in Argentina and Uruguay, they also held their festivities in the streets and plazas to facilitate building bonfires.  Some clubs even did so inside their facilities.  But most continue to build them outside in order to burn the bad and to purify and attract the good, following the basque tradition along with the ancestral European one.

Even if the majority of the celebrations were on the weekend, some also took place a little later like int he case of Lagun Onak in Pergamino, who held its event on Wednesday, and the Itxaropen Basque Club in Saladillo who will celebrate on Friday, or the Denak Bat Basque Club in Cañuelas who will celebrate on Saturday the 30th.
