The festival has selected four films that were produced and directed by Basques that will be shown tomorrow March 1, and Wednesday march 3 in 24 Mexican cities,  The Mexican audience won’t only have the opportunity to see these four films, but will also be able to meet firsthand the wide-range of activities that the Mendi Film Festival of Bilbao encompasses.

Bilbao, Bizkaia.   In its 8 years of existence, the Bilbao Mendi Film Festival has become an international reference for mountain films and over the coming days, March 1 and 3, it will take another step in this direction.  For the first time it will promote four films that were produced and directed by Basques in 24 Mexican cities, in hopes of sharing an example of the best the film festival has to offer while promoting Euskadi.

Films selected include:

  • 2 T On Paiju Peak, with Alberto Iñurrategi, Juan Vallejo and Mikel Zabalza starring and produced by the WOP (Walk On Project) Foundation
  • Next Stop Greenland, directed by Lara Izagirre ('Un otoño sin Berlín') and starring Alex Txikon
  • Indian Summer Festival,  starring brothers Iker and Eneko Pou
  • Novato, directed by Jon Herranz from Getxo and produced by Namuss Films

The films will be shown on March 1 and 3, at the Cinepolis theaters in 24 Mexican cities including: Mexico City, Puebla, Oaxaca, Querétaro, Cancun or Tijuana.

In the words of Jabier Baraizarra, Festival director, “Showing the Bilbao Mendi Film Festival in Mexico is a great opportunity to consolidate the importance of the festival at the international level, with promoting our film production about mountains and adventure on the American continent.”  The Festival’s hope is to continue to expand horizons and so these screenings in Mexico are the start of screenings in other countries.

The Mexican audience won’t only have the opportunity to see these four films, but they will also get to know, first hand, the wide range of activities that the Mendi Film Festival encompasses in Bilbao, as an essential destination for anyone that loves mountain and adventure films.

Screenings in Mexico are organized by Bilbao Mendi Film Festival and sponsored by Bilbao’s town hall, the Provincial Government of Bilbao and the Basque Government.  The 9th edition of “Mendi” will take place on December 9-18, 2016 and these sessions seek to continue to position the festival as one of the favorite destinations of mountain and adventure fans, looking to attract the Mexican audience to Bilbao.
