Another edition of the Durangoko Azoka, Book and Album Fair begins this Friday and will run through the 6th. This year, besides publishers, record companies and other agents of Basque culture, the fair will also feature the presence of the Basque community in Argentina, on behalf of the Basque Diaspora. During the fair publications by Basques in Argentina will be presented and talks and presentations will also be organized.
Durango, Bizkaia. The Durangoko Azoka is getting ready to open its doors this Friday, finishing installing the 246 stands that it includes this year. Among these, EuskalKultura.com would like to make you aware of the Basque club stand, supported by the Azoka along with the Basque Government’s Secretary of Foreign Action.
This initiative began last year with the presence of the Barcelona Euskal Etxea at the fair. Now, it’s the turn of the Basque community in Argentina, thanks to FEVA, the federation of Argentine Basque clubs.
Books and last names
At the Basque community of Argentina’s stand you will be able to consult several publications on various themes: bertsolaris in the Basque Diaspora, the history of Radio Euskadi, the file of Lehendakari Agirre, etc.
In addition, they will also provide a very curious and interesting service: every visitor will be able to consult the development of their last name in Argentina on a computer, which in many cases has a higher occurrence in the Latin American country than in Euskal Herria. Members of the Argentine Basque clubs, FEVA and the Secretary of Foreign Action will all be at the stand.
Talks
The Argentine Basque community will also give several talks at the Areto Nagusia. The schedule follows:
-December 2, at 2pm. "Basque-Argentines Now,” coordinated by Asier Vallejo, Director of the Basque Government’s Basque Community Abroad, with various Basque-Argentines talking about their realities.
-December 3, at 2pm. Presentation of the “Argentinan euskaraz" project by Kinku Zinkunegi (HABE) and Miren Arozarena (FEVA).
-December 4, at 2:30pm. “Ekin Basque-Argentine Publications.” Four publications related to the Basque-Argentine theme will be presented. This will be Ekin’s first time at the fair. Writers will also be present.
