Vitoria-Gasteiz. According to the Vice-Minister of Linguistic Policy, these tools facilitate working, writing, navigating, playing and enjoying in Basque. They are easily obtained and used, and are free. Nevertheless, many times users aren’t aware of these tools, or if they are aware of them, they don’t know how to get them. Aiming to put all of these in everyone’s reach, the Government has begun the “Klik Euskaraz” campaign as indicated in a note.
The campaign runs from November 26 to December 2 and will insert banners that say Klik euskaraz in eleven different media: Goiena, Sustatu, Argia, Gaztezulo, Eta Kitto, Zuzeu, Euskalkultura.com, Uztarria, Kronika, Aiaraldea and Hirinet. The campaing is primariy aimed at the Basque public but these online Basque tools are also very useful for students learning Basque.
In addition, the government is also handing out 1,500 two-sided signs to place on a desk: one side says Klik euskaraz and on the other it says Nahi baduzu, nirekin euskaraz, (You can speak Basque with me if you want), allowing the user to display the desired text.
Besides all of this, they have also distributed 16,500 leaflets in libraries, town halls, Euskaltegis, universities, hospitals and health centers in Euskadi. Besides advertising the website where these tools are found, the leaflet also explains which are the most used: the automatic translator, Xuxen dictionaries, Euskalterm, software in Basque, toponymic databases, ICT inventory in Basque and Basque grammars on the internet, on-line Basque learning programs, etc.
In the words of the director of Research and Linguistic Coordination, Ivan Igartua, “The economic and technological effort that we have undertaken has to benefit the user in some way, but also the Basque language. That is why we are introducing these tools, which was the goal of the campaign, aimed at all of the users of the Basque Government’s Vice-Ministry of Linguistic Policy’s website where all of the aforementioned tools are gathered.”
