Vitoria-Gasteiz. Last year, Day of the Basque Diaspora was celebrated for the first time and left evidence that the Basque Diaspora does exists in the world. Among Basques and Basque communities, there is a longing and thirst to claim and celebrate a day like this calling attention to our Diaspora and its contribution to Euskal Herria and the common Basque trunk. After holding a contest for ideas, the Directorate for the Basque Community Abroad, led by Gorka Alvarez Aranburu, set September 8th as the date to commemorate and celebrate the Day of the Basque Diaspora.
The date has stuck after the excellent start and great support it achieved last year. This year, the Basque Government invites everyone to celebrate again, in each Basque club and/or institution in the way that makes the most sense for each. They are requesting that everyone share what the activity will be ahead of time via this letter so that all events can be included in a program that covers the whole world.
Have you thought about celebrating this year?
