Mendoza, Argentina. On Thursday night, the Euskal Etxea in the city of Mendoza gathered members and friends to inaugurate the work by Gasteiz artist on the clubhouse façade. The mural is 250 square meters, making it one of the largest in the province, and includes symbolism that includes Basque idiosyncrasy with the local.  There are other elements including a txantxangorri bird, the symbol of the Basque language, a dialogue with a baker, boats bringing Basque immigrants to the country, landscapes with mountains and vineyards common to the Basque Country and the Cuyo region the word ‘irauten,” (enduring), and expression used by the institution.

In regards to the mural’s creation, Lautaro Pincheira, club reference explained to EuskalKultura.eus that the work required the participation of various collaborators, above all in order to complete it in such a short time.  “We were six painters who participated along with Irantzu on the work that is 250 square meters and we were able to conclude in less than a week.”

The Basque club mural isn’t the only one done by the Basque artists in Mendoza, nor in the country. In fact, Lekue also created a mural at the Avelino Maure School in Godoy Cruz along with its students. Also in the coming days, she will also participate in the Fourth Biennial of Art in Neuquen, in the “Open Sky Museum,” section along with the local Baskos de la Confluencia Basque club.
