Besides giving a recital of its traditional repertoires, the group will come to the Buenos Aires Celebra festival on the Avenida de Mayo with its new album “Songs for after Lunchr” that will play for the first time for the audience at the “Buenos Aires Celebrates the Basque Country” festival that will inundate the city with typical Basque songs to be sung after a long meal, including traditional ones and some party songs.
Arrecifes, Argentina. “Songs for after Lunch is responding to a need” Mariana Domine Irigoyen, the voice of Maral told EuskalKultura.com when asked the reason behind their latest project. “We saw that the tradition of spontaneous singing that characterizes Basque meals, at home as well as in the Basque clubs in the Diaspora needed recuperating. So we thought of a repertoire that would be easily recognized by many, after having either sun or heard them sung by their elders.”
The new album contains a group of songs that won’t be foreign to anyone who has ever been to Basque celebrations, at a long table or leaning against a bar. Some of the songs included are: Apaga Luz, Mariluz; Desde Santurce a Bilbao; Soy de Santurce; 1 de enero, 2 de febrero; Ixil Ixilik; Aldapeko; Axuri beltza; Beti eskamak kentzen; Egun da Santi Mamiña; Bagare; Andre Madalen; Aita semeak; Zenbat gera; Ikusi mendizaleak; and Guk euskaraz in versions by Maral to encourage anyone who likes to sing to continue to do so, so the tradition isn’t’ lost. The CD doesn’t stop there, it also includes a bonus track that includes some for lovers of Argentine folklore.
“As you can tell by the songs selected, the CD is for Basque homes, and Basque clubs for get-togethers and celebrations,” the singer adds.
Songs for after Lunch was recorded in Arrecifes, at the Adrian Charras Studio and it will be presented on the main stage at “Buenos Aires Celebrates” by Christian Rodriguez, drummer, Charly Oviedo keyboards, Billy Vogt on the guitar and voice, Maria Eugenia Cozza voice and Mariana Domine voice.
This same group will also travel to Macachin in October to present the CD at the Semana Nacional Vasca. According to Mariana Domine, “We still have some time, but we have great expectations. It is always a pleasure to play for the large audience that gathers at Semana Nacional.”
