This is the first international tour for this choir who will share this experience with the local vocal group Surcanto. The Gure Etxea Basque club choir will do the first part of its repertoire in Basque and will also perform the “Misa Criolla,” along with members of Surcanta.
Tandil, Argentina. Invited by the Villa Catolica Divino Leiro, the Gure Abestiak choir will travel through Brazil for ten days. As Martin Tumbarino, choir director told EuskalKultura.com, “This is a project we have been working on for some time that we are finally able to realize this year. The Villa Catolica Divino Leiro is located between Florianópolis and Camboriú, near the coast, and a friend who lives there is helping organizing the activities.”
The choir will travel just over two thousand kilometers by bus to get to the Brazilian State of Santa Catalina. The group will perform five concerts over the ten days of their stay. Among other places, they will perform at the Itajai Cathedral and at the Santa Paulina Sanctuary.
The Basque choir will traveling and performing with the Surcanto choir. According to Tumbarino, each recital will be divided into three parts; on the one hand, Gure Abestiak will do some songs in Basques including: Kilometroak, Maitia non zira, Birjina Maitea, Kinkirrin kunkurrun y Haurrak ikas ezazue. Next Surcanto will perform classic Argentine songs and to close the show, both groups will perform the “Misa Criolla,” by Ariel Ramirez.
