Founded just over two months ago, the new Basque club in Neuquen, Argentine Patagonia held its first community event.  The lunch was very well-attended and gathered nearly 50 guests, including the president of Euskal Txokoa in San Martin de los Andes, Manuel Bustingorry.  Encouraged by the success of their first event, members of “Baskos de la Confluencia,” are prepared to hold more activities

Neuquen, Argentina.   After a series of meetings in order to set the groundwork for the club, the members of “Baskos de la Confluencia,” selected its first board of director on September 22nd.  With Oscar Mendiberri at the head, the group continued to work in order to introduce itself to the city, the reason for hosting its first lunch last Sunday, on October 30th.  The get-together took place at the provisional clubhouse, at the facilities of the Cumulen District Neighborhood Committee, and brought together fifty members and friends, including the president of the Euskal Txokoa Basque Club in San Martin de los Andes, Manuel Bustingorry.

To create a Basque atmosphere, the hosts decorated the room with the colors of the Ikurriña, along with Ikurriñas and Lauburus.  They also displayed traditional Basque costumes and also had a txalaparta on hand, made especially for the occasion.  During the afternoon there was also Basque music as well as a txoko where videos about the Basque Country were shown.

When it was time to eat, the club cooks served tortilla pintxos, croquettes and odolkia (blood sausage).  There was also Basque hake with salsa verde and goxua for dessert.  In the words of Mendiberri himself, “it was a wonderful happy day, camaraderie and participation.  A true feast for everyone who participated, which encourages us to continue with our plans,” the president of the new club told EuskalKultura.com.
