Viedma, Argentina. As part of its “People of the Diaspora” cultural project, the Basque club in the cities of Viedma and Carmen de Patagones recognized the work done by local athletes of Basque descent, Julián Algañaras and Manuel Lascano.  Algañaras and Lascano are rowers and references in the world of Canoeing nationally and internationally as the 2019 World Champions after competing in China, as well as at the Pan-American Games in Lima in 2019, to mention some of their achievements.

During the presentation, coordinated by Elisabet Arraras, the depth of their sporting activity and lifestyle of these youth was made apparent, their connection to the river, the stories about their ancestors and their link with Basque culture.  “It was an enriching experience for all present filling the room at the Aberri Etxea to capacity, asking questions and showing great interest” club sources told EuskalKultura.eus.

[Dance by the Lagun Onak]

At the end of the event, the Lagun Onak dancers performed Banango Zaharra.  The project, “People of the Diaspora,” was born in the heart of the Aberri Etxea Basque Club in the beginning of 2019 in hopes of highlighting Basque people engaged in different areas to talk about their work and their relationship with the Basque community.
