The 42nd edition of the Buenos Aires International Book Fair begins today and will run through May 9, one of the most important cultural events of the year, anchored in the capital but with participation forma ll over the country. Once again, the Juan de Garay Basque Argentine Foundation will represent the Basque community, and will do so from Stand #1900 in the Yellow Pavilion as well as with talks and book presentations in the rooms designated for those.
Buenos Aires, Argentina. The International Buenos Aires Book Fair will begin today, this year bringing together among other representatives of letters, two novel awards: Mario Vargas Llosa and John M. Coetzee. In regards to the Basque culture, at this 42nd edition of the Fair, it will once again be the Basque-Argentine Juan de Garay Foundation who will run the space dedicated to publications of Basque authors.
As part of the fair, the Foundation will present new titles. Members of the institution will present their own Anuario 2015 (yearbook), Los Vascos en la Argentina (Basques in Argentina) and Los Vascos en la Rioja (Basques in the Rioja). Besides the presentation there will also be a talk on Basque culture. The event will take place on May 5 at 18:30 and will be attended by the Foundation’s president, Jorge Zorreguieta, accompanies by some of the main collaborators, including Jorge Beramendi, Pedro Beramendi, Carlos Irisarri and Jorge Otaño. The event will take place in the Adolfo Bioy Casares Room, while the Basque stand will be located in the Yellow Pavillion #1900.
In the same way, the stand will also have a large number of publications from Ekin publishers by European Basque writer Toti Martinez de Lezea as well as publications by the Basque Government.
The Basque Argentine list of publications that the Foundation will provide, for purchase as well as just to consult will be comprised, among others of the following titles: The Basques in Argentina, yearbooks The Basques in the Argentina, American Institute of Basque Studies, Martín de Álzaga, Garay and his Descendants, Graciano Mendilaharzu (a forgotten painter) , The Basques, the Basques in America, magazines "Los Vascos" (the Foundation quarterly newsletter), the Basque Universe and its Language, Huinca-Lô, and God Created Argentina, Basque Humor, Basque Cuisine, and The Sons of Ilk, among other titles.
