Vitoria-Gasteiz. Mayte Galardi and Iñaki Goikoetxea, both Fellows in the area of Internationalization of the Directorate of Relations with Basque Citizens and Collectivities Abroad, will leave for the US on August 9, for a three week stay. During their stay they will teach Basque cultural workshops in three US Basque clubs as part of the Gurea Program that is supported by NABO and the Basque Government.
The program of activities was organized with the help of John Ysursa, NABO’s facilitator and includes activities for children, adults and families. These activities include talks on the Basque culture and the Basque Government, the creation of a mural of Picasso’s “Guernica” by the children, a gimkana based on the map of Euskal Herria, as well as family Olympics.
This year’s workshops will take place at Colorado’s Basque club (Denver, CO), Chino’s Basque club (Chino, CA), and Rhode Island’s Basque club (Portsmouth, Rhode Island). During their stay the Fellows will have the opportunity to get to know the world of US Basque clubs first hand.
Third edition
This will be the third edition of the Gurea workshops, after the positive results of the last two years. In 2010 Fellows Aimar Rubio and Asier Ortega visited Winnemucca, Nevada; Buffalo, Wyoming; and Salt Lake City, Utah. Last year Fellows Natalia Ruiz and Nora Unzueta gave workshops in Mountain Home, Idaho, and in Nevada in Elko and Gardnerville.
