The Mexico Basque club celebrated the feast of San Sebastian once again, this year on January 23, as one of the most anticipated club events and one that always includes a Tamborrada directed by Drum Major Alfredo Jover. “It is without a doubt one of the best parties of the year, it is also the first and what determines what the rest of 2016 is going to be like,” Josu de Garritz club president said.
Mexico City, Mexico. Basques in Mexico City gathered last Saturday to celebrate one of the most endeared club festivities: the Day of San Sebastian, featuring, as always a Danborrada or Tamborrada. Many of the drum players have been participating in the event for years, under the direction of Drum Major, Alfredo Jover. Once again, with the sounds of Maestro Sarriegi, they were able to cheer everyone in attendance, more than 130 people, who also joined in from their seats banging on boards with sticks.
One of the drummers, Miren Aguirre, assured EuskalKultura.com that “Danborrada is the most joyous festivity of the year. The music and the energy of the participants is contagious and it multiplies.” Josu de Garritz agrees as he explains, “it is as many say, this event isn’t just about playing a drum, but what it represents for the Donostiarras which spreads from the Basque Country to the rest of the Diaspora."
