The Gure Txoko Basque club in Valladolid has carried out various activities over the last few weeks, including a talk on gender violence and an excursion to Burgos accompanied by the club’s choir who performed at the Cathedral. Now, the club is preparing the next big event, the traditional meal for San Juan.
Valladolid, Spain. The Gure Txoko Basque club in Valladolid let EuskalKultura.com know about some of its most recent events. On May 28 there was a talk entitled, “Equality and Domestic Violence,” by experts Enrique Trejo from the Service for the Promotion of Equality, and Soledad Carnicero and Encarnacion Jimenez, both from the Service Attention to Victims of Domestic Violence.
The talk generated a lot of interest among those present, who followed very attentively. After the talk, all present had refreshments.
Another recent activity was the club’s trip to Burgos, on June 14. The choir performed at the Cathedral and a group from the club accompanied them to spend the day in the city. The day also included a visit to the Museum of the Monastery of Las Huelgas, the concert and a meal at the Espacio Evo Restaurant. In the afternoon, the group visited the Yecla Gorge.
Finally, Gure Txoko reported that the next big club event will be on June 28 with the celebration of the traditional San Juanada. As in other years – “not to lose good traditions,” as they say – they will have a tortilla contest. Tortillas can be brought made, or can be made at the Txoko. Authorized ingredients are; eggs, potatoes, and onion with judging taking place at 1:30pm. The meal will follow at 2:30pm.
