Bilbao, Bizkaia. Anthropologist and American Euskaltzale, William Douglass, will be in the Basque Country to attend the Durango Book Fair where he will be awarded the Argizaiola in recognition of his intense efforts in favor of the Basque culture. During his stay, Douglass will participate in various activities among which are two meetings where he will talk about Basque emigration to the English speaking world.
His first talk will take place at Deusto University on December 4th when Douglass will talk about “The Basque Emigration to the English speaking World: the US and Australia” (19:00, I the Ellacuria Sala at the CRAL).
It is worth noting that as part of the same program, historian Pedro Oiarzabal will also give a talk on this Thursday, November 28 at a workshop on “The Basque Presence in the World: Identity and Culture,” at 17:00 in Room 414.
In Vitoria-Gasteiz
Douglass’s second talk will take place on December 5th at the University of the Basque Country in Vitoria-Gasteiz, where he will participate in the Second Series of Research Seminars “Migration in the Contemporary World.” There Douglass will talk again about Basque emigration to the US and Australia. It will be at 10:00 in the Salon de Actos at the college of Engineering. The seminars are open to the public.
The series will conclude with talks on migration by historians Robert Stojanov and Barbora Duzi on December 12th with a final session on December 17th by Jose Angel Hernandez Garcia from the University of La Sabana in Bogota, Colombia entitled, “Jose Luis de la Lombana between Euskadi, New York and Colombia.”
