Buenos Aires, Argentina. The Buenos Aires Celebra initiative comes from the city of Buenos Aires and it's for the communities that coexist at its heart. In some cases, sone communities' BAC has not been as successful, and so the “Buenos Aires Celebrates,” dedicated to one community or another was either cut back, or sometimes fused with a like-minded community. In the case of “Buenos Aires Celebrates the Basque Country,” the festival has not only been maintained, but its success is an object of pride for the city, as well as for the entire Basque community of Argentina.
Having become a real attraction this 2018 BAC will also include meetings between locals, and European visitors. After passing through Uruguay, the Director of the Basque Community Abroad, Gorka Aranburu, is now visiting Basque clubs in the interior of the province of Buenos Aires. He will meet with members of clubs in Maipu, Ayacucho and Mar del Plata, arriving in Buenos Aires the eve of BAC.
Activities for today and tomorrow
Today at 8:30pm, Angel Oiarbide (spokesperson), Iñigo Urrutia (jurist and UPV/EHU Professor) and Andoni Mikelarena (communications) of the Gure Esku Dago movement will talk about the Right to Decide. The event will take place at Euskaltzaleak (Bernardo de Irigoyen 826).
On Saturday, there will also be a talk by the representatives of this popular movement, but in this case at the Laurak Bat Basque Club. With a panel moderated by Iñaki Anitua, the talk will address Gure Esku Dago, the progress made, its projection, and the current situation in Catalonia and its affects on the Basque case. They will also talk about the 2019 reasons to decide on the Citizens Pact. This event begins at 6pm at Belgrano 1144.
The secretary for the diaspora from EH Bildu, and member of the Basque Parliament, Jasone Agirre Garitaonandia, who just arrived to Argentina, will also give a talk “The Road to Sovereignty,” tomorrow at 4pm at Euskaltzaleak.
