New York, USA. A group of young students from the Basque Country visited Euzko Etxea of New York last June, on their way to Boise, where they will spend their summer perfectioning their English and getting to know the local Basque history and culture.
Before visiting the NY Basque Club, the group went to New Jersey, where they met Iker Goñi, from Bilbao, at the Red Bull Arena. Goñi works at the stadium, and he showed them around. It is the second biggest soccer stadium of the US, with 25.189 seats.
Afterwards, the group went to Brooklyn and they visited Euzko Etxea. Club members Enrique Arana and Anna Mari Aguirre greeted them and told them about the center's story, as well as many anecdotes about the life of the Basques of New York.
The journey of these Basque students is part of the program "Tourism and Roots" of Overtails, a tour operator from Nafarroa. The program aims to strenghthen relations between the Basques from the Diaspora and Euskal Herria, through tourism activities and travels (more information: www.overtrailsargentina.com and Overtrails USA).
