Students from the Kukulcan School in Cancun, Mexico joined in the commemorative acts taking place in cities and countries around the world marking the 75 anniversary of the Bombing of Gernika. The initiative was carried out through an explanation of what happened in the Basque town bombed by Nazi and Italian Fascist aviators allied with General Franco. It also included a reproduction of Picasso’s “Guernica” on one of the walls of the center which opened last Friday.

Cancun, Mexico.  High school students of the Kukulcan School  in Cancun held an event as part of their 2012 Cultural Week, reproducing Picasso’s “Guernica” on a wall at the center “for the moments lived in the Basque Country as well as statement against fascism,” Alejandro Eguia-Lis, member of the local Basque community and project supporter, explained to EuskalKultura.com.

After the students finished their work, with help from their teachers, an official opening of the “Guernica” replica was held on Friday, June 15 at eleven in the morning.  The students were very proud.
