Elko, Nevada, USA. As part of the National Basque Festival activities, in Elko, NV the Western Folklife Center is holding a special reception and an illustrated talk by Jean Earl, “Basque Arborglyphs of the Great Basin,” on Thursday June 28th, at 5:30pm. Jean and Philip Earl conducted tireless research on tree carvings left behind by Basque sheepherders in the early to mid-20th century. The talk is free and open to the public.
This event is also a presentation of their exhibit at the Wiegand Gallery, along with the traveling exhibit “Mountain Picassos” featuring rubs of some of the carvings they found. After the exhibit reception and talk, there will be a concert by John Reischman and the Jaybirds.
Concert admission is $20 for General; $15 for member/seniors/students and $5 for kids.
