For another year, members of the Basque community in Montevideo gathered at the Gernika Plaza to commemorate the anniversary of the Bombing of Gernika, April 26, 1937 by Nazi aviators and the Italian allies of General Franco.  Enrique Poittevin, president of FIVU, board members and members of the Euskaro and Haize Hegoa Basque clubs attended the event. 

Montevideo, Uruguay.   The ceremony in memory of the tragic event was held on its anniversary at the Gernika Plaza.  Enrique Poittevin addressed the crowd with an emotional talk referring to Gernika and its significance, the historic facts and its memory and echo for the Basque people and those in the Diaspora. 

There was also a floral wreath laid at the foot of the oak tree and the plate and dantzaris from the Eusko Indarra group in Montevideo performed an Aurresku.

Those present sang Gernikako Arbola with Basque  and Uruguayan flags flying.
