In Euskal Herria going out to sing verses on the eve of Santa Ageda is a very old and loved tradition. In the Diaspora, there have been groups who have maintained the custom and that do the same every year in their cities, to sing to the saint, like in Boise or Madrid. This year, we also have received images from Brussels and Elko, NV.
Donostia-San Sebastian. For another year, in various parts of the Diaspora, there were Basques ready to take to the streets to follow the tradition of singing to Santa Ageda. In Boise, for example, this custom is well entrenched, and is usually carried out by local Basque students. It is a great opportunity to practice and have fun, in the cold Idaho winter. This year, they were joined by the Director of EuskalKultura.com, Joseba Etxarri, who enlivened the event with his trikitixa.
Another city where the tradition is carried out annually, for the last 35 years, is Madrid, where the club choir and members tour the main streets and sing in the Spanish capital. They have sent us this video:
Finally, another city where the tradition was celebrated was Elko, NV and also in Brussels, Belgium thanks to the Bruselako Euskal Etxea. We leave you with these images:
