Donostia-San Sebastian. The National Basque Week in Argentina (Semana Vasca) is one of the events that gathers the most Basques in the Diaspora annually. This year the celebration is slated for La Plata, the capital of the province of Buenos Aires during the month of November, organized by Euzko Etxea of La Plata. The exact dates are not yet established even though it will probably take place during the first two weeks of the month, depending on several circumstances. As soon as the organizers at the La Plata Basque club choose the dates, they will be published here on EuskalKultura.com.
In successive years, the sites for Semana Vasca are distributed in the following way, according to FEVA, the federation of Argentinean Basque associations.
In regards to other events this year, it should be noted that some that had been established have been canceled as is the case for Udaleku organized by the Zingirako Euskaldunak Basque Club of Chascomus that has decided to concentrate its efforts on organized the 2015 edition for more children. This is also the case of the UVV Basque Summer University in Buenos Aires, that was to hold classes in February but has cancelled due to low enrollment. Nevertheless wiil distribute the events throughout the year. See Denak Bat Basque Club of Cañuelas will be on April 5th and 6th.
UNITED STATES
In the US, the main event this year will take place on May 23-25th in Bakersfield, CA, with the celebration of the annual NABO (North American Basque Organizations) annual convention and Basque Festival, which will coincide with the 70th anniversary of the Bakersfield based Kern County Basque Club.
The weekend before, May 17th and 18th, Los Banos Basque Club, will celebrate its annual Basque festival coinciding with the club’s 50th anniversary. Festivities will include various celebrations with a festival program that will be announced soon. Remember that the first Basque festival in the US is always in Fresno, CA this year on May 3rd and 4th.
OTHER COUNTRIES
Basque clubs in other countries will also celebrate their respective Basque weeks or annual festivals. Clubs in Canada will join in NABO celebrations, since they are also part of the same federation. Some clubs in Uruguay usually join in Semana Vasca in Argentina. And in other cases like in Chile, Paraguay, Brazil or clubs like Madrid Euskal Etxea, among others, celebrate their own Basque weeks even if they haven’t yet published their dates.
