"Seven Houses in France" by Atxaga, chosen among the top 20 fiction books of the year in the U.S.

The prestigious U.S. magazine Publishers Weekly has selected Bernardo Atxaga’s novel, Seven Houses in France as one of the best 20 fiction books of 2012. Publishers Weekly is one of the most important literary magazines in the U.S. and its lists of best books are very influential. Atxaga’s novel was published in September by Graywolf Press and is being very well received.

Donostia-San Sebastian.  The literary magazine Publishers Weekly has selected the novel Seven Houses in France among the 20 best fiction books published in the U.S. this year.  In this prestigious and influential list, Atxaga is accompanied by such authors as Alice, Munro, Andrew Miller, Jeet Thayil and Amanda Coplin accruing the writers’ website.  It is worth mentioning that his novel is the only one that had not been originally written in English, but translated, as well as the fact that the magazine refers to Atxaga as a “Basque writer.”

Besides the list of the best 20 fiction books that includes Atxaga, Publishers Weekly also publishes annually lists in various categories like poetry, mystery, children’s literature etc.

Seven Houses in France (Zazpi etxe Frantzian) was published in the U.S. last September by Graywolf Press.  The novel was translated by Margaret Jull Costa.  The work was originally published in 2011 in the UK, by Harvill Secker.  This week a second edition was published in this country in pocket format.
