Some 30 dance groups participated in Saturday night’s performance at Euskal Astea, Semana Vasca 2017. The show was divided into two parts; the first dedicated to traditional dances, while the second included more modern choreographies. An exception was made this year as a gesture of showing the Basque Diaspora’s solidarity with Catalonia, with the dance group from the Casal del Paîsos Catalans from La Plata also being part of the show.
San Nicolas, Argentina. Dantzaris from Argentina, and Chile were the stars this year’s Saturday evening gala at Semana Nacional. The show, coordinated by Aitor Alava, was divided into two parts separated by a short intermission. The first part included more traditional dancing while the second included more modern choreographies. This mix of modern and traditional was also fused with styles and origins of rhythms. The evening concluded with various dance groups joining in an Ari Arin, milonga and a rumba.
The group, Itxaropen Gaztea from the Euzko Etxea in Santiago, made their dancing debut at this year’s Semana VAsca with Hator Hona. Among the other novelties was the inclusion of dancers from the Casal del Paîsos Catalans from La Plata who performed holding the Estelada flag.
