On Saturday February 21st, little Sebastian lost his battle with Wiskott-Aldrich Syndrome (WAS) a rare immune deficiency syndrome. His only chance of survival was to receive a marrow transplant and in spite of a large campaign on his behalf, organized in Basque communities in the US and abroad, a suitable donor was not found in time and Sebby passed away in the arms of his parents.

San Francisco, California, USA. It was via an e-mail sent by his family and signed by his father that we learned of Sebastian’s passing.  He died at Stanford Hospital where he was being treated.  The doctors assured his parents that he was in no pain and they were able to spend as much time with him as they needed.

The family wants to thank everyone who had been praying for them, sending words of encouragement, as well as organizing marrow drives.  The e-mail ends, “We will all remember him for his bright smile, gentle manner and love of music.”

Sebastian’s funeral mass will be held on Wednesday February 25th at 10 am at St. Gregory’s in San Mateo.  Burial will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery in Menlo Park.
