The Zazpirak Bat Basque club in Rosario said goodbye to a year that will remain in the memories of its members. The event was a success as described from the club, “The hall was filled. Just as all the events this year, once again the Zazpi seemed small.” Even Olentzero didn’t want to miss the party and so he appeared after dinner with his bag in his hand, to the delight of those in attendance. At the moment of the toast, club president, Enrique Otaño, encouraged all there to raise their glasses and to continue to work for the euskal etxea as they have done so far.

Rosario, Argentina.  A very special time is coming to an end for the Basque community in Rosario.  During 2012, club authorities and members were present and protagonists in events of remarkable significance, such as the bicentennial of the creation of the Argentine flag, the club’s hundredth birthday and the organization of this year’s National Basque Week to name a few.

The year finally came to an end and the Zazpi let it go at the same active and festive pace that they have kept since February.  The end of year party took place on December 15 at the clubhouse with one novelty. The event was organized by the parents of children who, according to the invitees, “accepted the first challenge, and were baptized by fire.  They decorated the hall impeccably, the menu was exquisite and the entertainment, passed with flying colors even by the most particular in the group.”

Olentzero included a visit to Zazpirak Bat as part of his Christmas tour to give the club’s children presents.  After his work was finished, the cherished Basque figure stayed to enjoy the party with his friends in Rosario.

When it came time to make a toast, club president Enrique Otaño stressed the success of all of the events that took place during the centennial year and invited everyone present to raise their glasses. During his speech Otaño wanted to congratulate the entire group that makes up Zazpi and he encouraged them “to close ranks to continue to strengthen and grow the euskal etxea.”  With music and dancing, the lights were on late at the 100 year old clubhouse in Rosario.
