In Mendoza they celebrated one week in advance. The Basque Homeland festivities, the official event will take place in the Basque Country this Sunday, in Mendoza was celebrated early, last weekend, due to organizational issues. Besides film and talks, the new cancha was also inaugurated and the Basque Field, that is located in the city’s main square.

Topping the list of clubs that will celebrate Aberri Eguna over the coming weeks, Denak Bat provided its community with a series of activities as part of its last week's Aberri Eguna celebration. The Mendoza festivities began on March 27 with the screening of Gora Vasco a documentary that tells the story of Guillermo Larregui, 'El Vasco de la carretilla' (the Basque of the wheelbarrow).
The program continued the next day with two rather important events. On the one hand, the presentation of the book Memories of a Farmhouse in Elorrio, 1566-2013 by Javier Iruarrizaga Landaburu was presented. Members of the Uribarrena family participated in the talks, those residing in Mendoza and who are direct descendants of the people who lived in the Ortuguren farmhouse described in the book.
Afterwards, on Saturday the club’s pelota cancha was inaugurated after being recently remodeled and adapted for One Wall. This was thanks to the group of players led by Adrian Astorga, club member and world runner-up in this modality, whose aim it is to support this sport in Mendoza. The cancha was named “Horma bat” (one wall) and was inaugurated with some exhibition games.
Finally, on Sunday March 29, the Basque community in Mendoza gathered at the Plaza Independencia to inaugurate the Basque Field (Prado Vasco). As part of the emotional ceremony that sought “to value the land that marks since 2008 the presence of the Basques in the province.” Finally, the festivities concluded with a lunch that gathered a large number of club members at the clubhouse.
