The invitation is directed to youth in the Basque Country, from any of the seven provinces, between the ages of 18-30, who would be available for three weeks in the summer to travel to Argentina and teach Basque culture workshops. Participants are responsible for travel costs to Necochea and the local Basque club, Euzko Etxea will take care of room and board.  “Hator Hona,” 2018 will run July 13-August 3rd and the deadline to apply is May 18th.

Necochea, Argentina.   “Hator Hona,” is an exchange program that was begun by youth at the Euzko Etxea in Necochea in the province of Buenos Aires, some 500 kilometers from the capital city.  The first edition was in 2004, and it has done nothing but become stronger each year, both in the responses from the youth in the Basque Country, as well as the impact it has had on the local Basque community.  It has become the model as well for similar programs like ‘Anima Zaitez!’ at the Euzko Etxea in Villa Maria, that we talked about a few days ago.

This year is the program’s 14th edition and the following are the required criteria for the youth from the Basque Country:

-Be between the ages of 18 and 30
-Have knowledge of Euskera, Basque music and dance, Basque food, or Basque rural sports
-Degrees are not required to participate, only knowledge of Basque culture and the willingness to share it
-Participants are responsible for travel costs to and from Necochea; the Basque club will be responsible for room and board

When asked if this year’s edition will be different from prior ones, Jaunchi Yacomini told EuskalKultura.com that the format of other years would be maintained.  “New things will come later, when the youth arrive, according to what they have planned, and what they propose,” Juanchi said, but later created some suspense saying, “this year’s edition will include a big surprise that we will let folks know about soon.”

Youth from the Basque Country intrsted in participating should contact the organizers of “Hator Hona through its blog. New, and updates on the project will be published on the blog as well as on Facebook: Hator Hona Project. Deadline to apply is Friday, May 18th.
