The fourth video of 2015 of the Poziktibity project was presented yesterday in Bilbao by the vice-counsel of Linguistic Policy, Patxi Baztarrika, and ETB presenter, Ana Urrutia. This fourth video is directly related to the International Day of Euskera and its goal is to recognize the effort being made by Euskaldunberris (literally, new speakers, people that learned Basque as adults). In addition, in this the last video, other institutions have joined in the project like the Provincial Government of Bizkaia, the Provincial Government of Araba as well as the city halls of Bilbao, Gasteiz and Donostia. The presentation was also attended by representatives of these institutions.
Bilbao, Bizkaia. According to a note published by Bizkaimedia, the fourth video of the Poziktibity project that hopes to strengthen Basque use in a different way and that was produced a year after the project was introduced publicly. More than just a simple idea, Poziktibity is a way to see and enjoy life. During this year we have been reminded that it is a living concept. As such, it is always undergoing changes and variations.
Last year, the project enjoyed the collaboration of very well-known people in society (soccer players, TV personalities, doctors…who appeared in the videos). This year, once again, it has counted on the support of people who reflect the values of Poziktibity like Ana Urrutia, but the project has also focused on daily events in life, with anonymous people also appearing in the video.
With the motto “Poziktibity is new,” this fourth video is directly related to the International Day of Euskera and hopes to pay tribute to Euskaldunberris. That is to say, this video hopes to recognize the effort made by people who are learning Basque. In the end, the Euskaldunberris, are also Poziktibity, it says.
Poziktibity also has some new partners, including the Provincial Governments of both Bizkaia and Araba and the city halls of Bilbao, Gasteiz and Donostia who are also participating in the project. They have also invited all the cities in the autonomous region wherever Euskaldunberris are found (in parks, streets, sports complexes) in their towns.
The vice-counsel of Linguistic Policy has expressed that he would like “highlight form the beginning of his speech that the press conference today is being offered and is part of the Poziktibity wave so will be different from the others. In this new wave, we have reserved a very special time that we would like to recognize. We would like to recognize and appreciate the Euskaldunberri. As the slogan of this new wave says, Poziktibity is new. We have to recognize that all speakers are necessary for Euskera. In the same way, we want to show our appreciation for the effort that many are putting forth to learn Basque, and realizing the time commitment it takes as well as the hard work to learn something that they believe in.
Patxi Baztarrika wants to thank everyone who one day decided to learn Basque: “Euskaldunberris, thank you very much! You are new speakers, and you have renovated Euskara and have revived it. You are the heartbeat of the Basque language, the street is yours. That is why the street is prominent in this last weave, since the street is where you find Basque alive.”
To conclude, the vice-counsel of Linguistic Policy also announced that there is a new special website where “you can see the video that we presented today as well as share experiences and get to know about different initiatives in various towns in relation to Euskaldunberris.”
