Paraná, Argentina. The year of celebrating 30 years of uninterrupted broadcast, the radio program “Presencia Vasca” (Basque Presence) that airs from Parana with Federico Borras Alcain, is more present than ever. Not only because he remains loyal to his commitment during the quarantine, doing the programs from home, but because he has changed the contents and the function of the program due to the new circumstances, “always aiming to provide listeners good entertainment options, submerged in Basque culture.”
His show on March 22nd included a live interview with Bizkaian singer Gontzal Mendibil, creator of classics such as “Bagare.” Mendibil shared his perception on the current situation that is crossing Euskal Herria and the world, and talked about his compositions, remembered Iparragirre, and recovered the figure, Facundo Cabral, Argentine singer. On Sunday, April 5th, Federico Borras brought us the voice and opinions of Benito Lertxundi (referential singer born in Orio, Gipuzkoa). Reference, if there is one in Basque song, Lertxundi reflected on his present and past career, with anecdotes including vivid moments along with Atahualpa Yupanqui. Complete interview audio here.
In the year of its 30th anniversary, “Presencia Vasca” has cancelled the planned festivities along with the Urrundik Basque Association in Parana. For the time being, the celebration is becoming a series of interview that will continue with new installments with the commentator surprising us in the coming shows.
Presencia Vasca airs on FM Universidad every Sunday from 11am-noon, Argentina time; from 4-5pm European continental time.
