Presentation today and this week of the book “Vascos en Buenos Aires” in the Basque Country

The presentation of the book Vascos en Buenos Aires will be this afternoon in Bayonne, tomorrow, Wednesday in Donostia and Thursday the 23rd in Bilbao, published last month by the Administration of the Federal Capital of Argentina. Currently in the Basque Country for the occasion are, Claudio Ayruj, sub secretary of Human Rights and Cultural Pluralism of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, and Sara Pagola, the delegate of Euskadi in Argentina along with Asier Vallejo, Director of Basque Communities Abroad who will join them from Vitoria-Gasteiz.

Baiona, Lapurdi.  Today’s event in Bayonne will take place at 18:00 at the Basque Museum, while tomorrow’s event will take place at the San Telmo Museum in Donostia at 19:00 and Thursday’s in Bilbao will take place at the Maritime Museum.  The last will also be attended by the speaker of the Basque Government and minister of Justice and Public Administration Josu Erkoreka.

As announced by EuskalKultura.com last November, Vascos en Buenos Aires  is part of a collection published by the city of Buenos Aires in relation to the emigrant communities that are part of that community and have contributed to the historic reality and the current CABA (Autonomous City of Buenos Aires).

This is the fifth volume of the collection after the first two that were dedicated to the Japanese, Italian communities while two special volumes were published dedicated to the genocide suffered by the Jewish and Armenian communities.

Vascos en Buenos Aires is composed of the following sections:

-"Introduction"
-"The Basque Country"
-"A Brief History of the Basque Country"
-"A Modern and Vibrant Country of Ancient Culture and Art"
-"Basque Migration to Buenos Aires"
-"The Basques in the Religious Life in Buenos Aires"
-"The Basque Presence in the Neighborhood of Almagro"
-"Basque Institutions in Buenos Aires"

Also includes a prologue and greetings by Claudio Ayruj, general director of Institutional Relations of the General Secretariat of the CABA Government; Julio Croci, coordinator of the Directorate of Collectivities of CABA; Lehendakari Urkullu; and the delegate of Euskadi in Argentina-Mercosur, Sara Pagola Aizpiri.

Besides the aforementioned institutions, the following Basque institutions and assoications of Buenos Aires contributed to the elaboration of the book:

The book's first presentation took place in Buenos Aires last December, coinciding with events celebrating the International Day of Euskera (ENE).
