Parana, Argentina. With much joy and pride, director of the radio program “Presencia Vasca,” Federico Borras, let us know about the latest recognition of the program, this time by the Argentinian National Chamber of Deputies.
This time the project was presented to the legislature by deputy Osvaldo Elorriaga who was seconded by deputies from the provinces of Buenos Aires, Formosa, and Entre Rios. The paper remarks the huge work “done over the years by this program that has the most complete archive of Basque-Argentine voices collected over the last quarter century.”
It also remembers that the Basques "came from both sides of the Pyrenees – in the case of Entre Rios from 1835-1915 – and so Entre Rios is infused with Basque names. It suffices to mention Justo Jose de Urquiza, the first Argentine president (1854-1860) and prior Governor of Entre Rios and promoter of huge Basque emigration to the province until the current governor of Entre Rios, Sergio Urribarri, making Entre Rios the Argentine province with the largest number of governors with Basque last names, historically unique.”
This recognition from the Argentine deputies is similar to another one paid to the program by the Senate, with the authority of legislator, Sigrid Kunath, that was unanimously passed on May 27. Finally, among the distinctions received by the program in its 25th anniversary year, it was also declared “Of Cultural Interest” by the Minister of Culture and Communication of the government of Entre Rios.

The 2015 season will conclude on December 27 since “after broadcasting for twenty years without interruption, this year, they are taking a few weeks of vacation,” Borras told EuskalKultura.com.
