Korrika 19 arrived in Navarre and will pass the baton for two days across this province.  But the message in favor of Euskera has surpassed the borders of the Basque country again, and thanks to the Diaspora, it has arrived in Necochea, Liverpool, Madrid, Berlin, Medellin….Following is a gallery of photos, and some video, whose joy and enthusiasm are contagious and examples of a lifetime working in favor of the Basque culture.  Mila esker!

Donostia-San Sebastian.   Tipi-tapa, step by step, Korrika is making its way through Euskal Herria, and in the Diaspora the steps are reaching more and more places, thanks to Basques around the world.  We are currently trying to show, little by little, the images that have been sent to us from here and there.  They are many, and too many to include them all, but we also want to contribute and raise awareness, here in the Basque Country, of the work done by Basque clubs abroad that don’t always get recognized for their work in favor of the Basque culture.

In Necochea, for example, the Basque club organized another edition of Korrika and sent us images that show the work done over the years by Basques.  Some of the elders of the club, and founding members joined the race showing that they are still in great shape with an enviable spirit.  What a tremendous breed these “gaztetxos” from Necochea.

In Berlin, the race also gathered young and old – some 300 people in all – that raced through Neukolln.  The baton was passed from hand to hand: starting from the children of Basque parents living in Berlin; then to German Basque students; and finally to members of the Gernika Deutsch-Baskischer Kulturverein Basque club.

Korrika is also an essential event on the Basque calendar in Madrid where they once again raced through the city’s center, surprising neighbors and leaving beautiful images.  We have gathered some in our gallery, but we invite you to see their complete gallery published by Artzai Jauregi on his Facebook page, here.
