Donostia-San Sebastián. Gaztemundu 2019 begins. This weekend, the 15 participants chosen for this year’s Gaztemundu will arrive to gather for the first time on Sunday, and begin the program on Monday. This year’s program coincides with the 7th World Congress of Basque Collectivities Abroad and so the program’s theme focusses on Basque club management. Gaztemundu will run September 23-27 followed by some visit to different places and areas in the Basque Country, and will conclude with participants joining in the Congress October 1-4, 2019.
The goal of Gaztemundu 2019 is to promote leadership in the Basque communities in order to promote and sustain themselves. Topics that will be addressed in order to achieve this are: Professionalize and lead Basque communities: Revitalize the Basque communities; making their activities more attractive; Open Basque centers to the outside world; Create synergy between the different clubs: Convert this activity in an action plan: Apply it in the coming four years and verify compliance to it.
Gaztemundu as well as the World Congress will take place in Bilbao. Gaztemundu includes working sessions as well as some outings, for example, toe the Kafe Antzokia in Bilbao, to Zorrotzaurre (ZAWP, Zorrotzaurre Art Work in Progress) as well as some day-long trips especially on the weekend when they will travel from Bilbao to Navarre and then to Iparralde; to the Arabar Errioxa or Rioja Alavesa, and to Zumaia and Donostia.
We previously published an article about Gaztemundu that includes the information on the 15 participants 2019 (see here). There have been a few adjustments since the representative from the Gure Mendietakoak club (Colombia) will not attend due to work conflicts. In this case, the next alternate from Union Vasca in Bahia Blanca, Argentina will now attend.
