Donostia-San Sebastián. The “Netflix euskaraz”/ “Netflix in Basque” campaign is demanding that the digital platform include audiovisual contents in Basque, as well as keeping in mind the social linguistic reality of its Basque clients. So far, the petition has gathered some 9,251 signatures, with 10,000 being the goal, fundamentally in the Basque Country, but also in the Diaspora where a growing number of Basques demand films in their original Basque versions, maybe with subtitles in Spanish, French, or English, and in Basque for other films in Euskal Herria.
The challenge is gathering 10,000 signatures before April 15th. There is not much time left to reach that number and so your support is appreciated. Joining the campaign is really easy. All you have to do is go to the page, include your name and email which is then confirmed, concluding the process. You can also show your support by forwarding this note.
Currently, there are few titles that can be enjoyed in Basque on the platform. Some of the latest ones include Handia, by Aitor Arregi and Jon Garaño, Errementari by Paul Urkijo Alijo, Akelarre, by Pablo Aguero (recently made available in Hegoalde and Latin America), or for example beginning this week, Black is Beltza, by Fermin Muguruza (as of March 26th.in the US).
