The Kirchner Cultural Center (CCK) – the largest and most modern cultural center in Latin America located in Buenos Aires in what used to be the main post office – will host April 25-27 a conference on the exile of the first Lehendakari, Jose Antonio Agirre, a theme that will also be treated in the film series The Journey of Agirre. Five documentaries that comprise the series will be shown with various roundtables and the participation of different Buenos Aires City Basque clubs.

Buenos Aires, Argentina.   Organized by the Delegation of the Basque Government for Argentina and Mercosur, the activity has two fundamental objectives: to carry out a Basque activity in a relevant cultural space in Buenos Aires and Latin America, as well as link all of the city’s Basque clubs in a common activity that stresses the values that Lehendakari Agirre represented: the search for peace through art, democracy and solidarity among others.

The choice of the date was no coincidence.  Every year the Basque Diaspora commemorates the Bombing of Gernika with several activities and in this way the Delegation proposed joining in the large number of tributes to the victims of that fateful April 26, 1937.

The series, The Journey of Agirre will begin tomorrow and will run through Friday in room 511 at the Kirchner Cultural Center.  Showings are free and open to the public, no RSVP required.  The room will open 30 minutes prior to each showing
