Donostia-San Sebastián. We are commemorating the 500th anniversary of the expedition (1519-1522) that culminated in the first ever trip around the world led by Basque sailor Juan Sebastian Elcano, from Getaria (Gipuzkoa), in a context conditioned in the last few months by the Coronavirus. We take advantage of this opportunity to learn more about that time, the people and context, precisely what this book offers the reader and so today we propose: Elcano, the Basques and the First Trip Around the World, by Daniel Zulaika.
Elkano, the Basques and the First Trip Around the World is the result of historic research done over two years by Daniel Zulaika. The common thread of this work is the Basques: those that participated in the expedition and those that were part of its organization and its launch, as well as those in this country with a long maritime history.
