The “Night of Books,” organized in San Miguel increased in quantity and quality of proposals as well as in the number of attendees.  This year, more than 20,000 people viewed the exhibit and the local Basque group, Askatasunaren Bidea, again was part of the event, becoming an attraction for those interested in our culture. A significative number of the visitors to the stand became members of the group. 

San Miguel, Argentina.   The city of San Miguel, in the province of Buenos Aires, celebrated another edition of “Night of Books,” an outdoor activity held next door to the “Old Train Station” sponsored by the city with the participation of a large number of local cultural and institutional groups.  The event took place on December 1-2 and allowed locals to enjoy a large program of musical shows, book presentations and talks.

The Basque group, Askatasunaren Bidea in San Miguel is part of the event year after year with a stand that provides the work done by them, in favor of the culture and the Basque language, visibility.  One of the group’s references, Horacio Marotto Etxezahar, explained to EuskalKultura.com that once again “many people came to our gazebo to ask us various questions, generally about surnames, history, Euskera, and attracted by the various cultural proposals and talks, film, Euskera and food, that will continue next year.  The result was very positive following the trend of prior years we added more than 40 members.

End of year dinner

The last event for 2017 for Askatasunaren Bidea will be its end of year dinner, on December 16th at 8:30pm at the Club San Miguel's restaurant (Angel D’elía 1360 Street).  Anyone wishing to attend needs to RSVP by emailing: askatasunarenbidea@gmail.com by December 10th.
