The headquarters is located in a central location in the city and is a shared space with the “Mujer, Paz y Desarrollo,” NGO (Women, Peace and Development) , an entity that provides space to the Basque association so that it can carry out part of its activities there. All moved in at Parana 197, Gerora has confirmed a vast program of activities from here until December that includes the Euskera Week and a Meeting on Minority Languages, among others.
Cordoba, Argentina. Four years after its creation, the Gerora Association continues firm and loyal to its fundamental principles. That is why, now moved in to their new home, they have reorganized to be above all things, “a space for the dissemination of Basque culture in all its expressions.”
“The new location,” as explained by Gerora president, Elba Mocoroa, is a place that is shared with 'Women, Peace and Development,' an NGO that has been doing very interesting work for the last twenty years in favor of the rights and education of women to confront problems of gender. They have generously shared their space, where our board of directors meets and where we hold workshops on Basque, monthly conversation practice thanks to Noe Fernandez and Gabi Aguirre, and workshops on txistu and culinary arts. It has three very spacious rooms, and it is centrally located on Parana 197. For our music and dance activities, however, we have get another space so that we can carry these out with more space.”
Basque Government Delegate in Argentina, Sara Pagola, visited the city of Cordoba in August and also the new headquarters of Gerora. “We also had a meeting with the Dean of the College of Language, Dr. Elena Perez, and many positive possibilities came out of this meeting,” Mocoroa affirmed. Mocoroa is also a Basque teacher at the aforementioned College. This is precisely where Gerora and the University of Cordoba will greet Jesus Txutxi Ariznabareta, representative of the Independentistak Network from the Basque Country on October 28th.
End of year activities
Enthused by the possibilities that their new headquarters provides, members of Gerora are now deep in what is becoming a vast program of activities that they are developing over the next few months. At the beginning of December they will host the Euskera Week and the Meeting of Minority Languages that will also include the Quechua, Piamontese, Catalan and Basque languages. During the same week they will also celebrate the Olerki Eguna (Day of Poetry) and Liburu Askea (Book Release) in various places in the city.
In regards to the Association’s solidarity activities, they will carry out a series of performances of Txotx! Basque Dances in Cordoba in Retirement Homes as well as in hospitals in the area, the first taking place on December 18th at 6pm in Unquillo.
