A lot of news is coming from Necochea: The local Basque Club is requesting youth from Euskal Herria to participate in their Hator Hona exchange program. The invitation is aimed at people between the ages of 18 and 30 for a two-week stay from July 14-August 4th.  The Euzko Etxea in Necochea will also celebrate its 72nd anniversary this weekend with a program that includes the celebration of Aberri Eguna and Korrika, two dates engraved in the heart of the Basque community in Necochea.

Necochea, Argenitna.  The “Hator Hona” (Come Here) program created and managed by the club young dantzaris is now enjoying its 13th edition.  They have once again extended the invitation with the same enthusiasm and expectations that they had in 2004, “although, clearly, with much more experience,” they say with a smile.  The invitation goes to Basque youth in all seven territories of Eusakl Herria with the following requirements:

-be between the ages of 18 and 30
-speak Basque and have a good command of Spanish
-knowledge about Basque music, dance, Basque food or rural sports
-no degree is necessary, only experience, knowledge and the desire to share it with others
-participant is responsible for round-trip travel to Necochea but room and board while there is provided by the club

But the main requirement is “to love the Basque culture and the willing to share it with the Diaspora.” Hator Hona 2017 and the classes, workshops and all of the activities associated with it will take place starting on July 14 for two-three weeks.  The deadline to apply is April 30 and the organization will publish the names of those chosen in May on their Facebook and Blog.  The application is available here.

72nd Anniversary Program

More Announcements

In April the club has other good news.  The club’s Eneko Cider House is in the middle of making cider and is hoping to complete the process this month so that it can rest, and can hopefully be enjoyed in July.  In addition, the Euzko Etxea has also announced that Basque classes will begin on Tuesdays from 18:00-19:00 and will be taught by Maite Bilbao.
