The writer from Ondarroa will travel next week to Pekin, Tokyo and Kyoto to present the Chinese and Japanese versions of his second novel, Mussche (Susa, 2012) or What Moves the World. depending the language. Its Spanish version was published by Seix Barral under the title Lo que mueve el mundo (2013). Uribe's works have been translated to different European languages and now to Chinese (Lijang Publishing House) and to Japanese (Hakusui Sha).

Iñaki Mendizabal.   The Japanese version was done by translator Nami Kaneko, from Euskera, as she did three years ago with Bilbao-New York-Bilbao, his first novel.  On the other hand, the Chinese version was done by Huang Yehua (translator also for other authors including Gabriel García Márquez), in this case from the Spanish version of the book.

The presentation in China will be held on December 2, at the World Literature Center at the Normal University of Pekin.  Others present will be critic Zhang Qinghua and writer Su Tong.  Su Tong is, today, one of the most important authors in Chinese literature, and well-known in the west for writing Wives and Concubines,  that was made into a film in 1991 by director Zhang Yimou under the title The Red Lantern (Golden Palm at the Cannes Film Festival).

The presentations in Japan will take place on December 5 and 7 and will include visits to several bookstores in Tokyo and Kyoto.  In Tokyo he will be accompanied by university professor Ryuta Imafuku, and Kyoto critic Fuji Hikaru.  Kirmen Uribe will also do a poetry reading in Euskera and Japanese along with poet Kejiro Suga, at the Café Llavandería in Tokyo.

Bilbao-New York-Bilbao was translated into Japanese in 2012 and was very well-received by the public and critics alike.  It was elected book of the year by Mainichi Shimbun and Vogue Japan.  In regards to the Chinese translation, Mussche is one of the first book written in Basque to be published in China, “since publishing a translation is not very common,” according to the author himself.
