The Basque community in Cañuelas held a very special program, this weekend, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the local Denak Bat Basque club’s main event. The Dantzari Get-Together for Aberri Eguna this year included dancing, a Tamborrada, but also live Basque-Argentine music with Maral, and a gigantic Paella, a tribute to former soldiers and fallen in the Falklands (see photo gallery)
Cañuelas, Argentina. Without having initially proposing it, but with much work and scarifies, the Denak Bat Basque club in Cañuelas, for the last decade, has achieved hosting the Dantzari Get-Together on Aberri Eguna among its main events for the Basque Diaspora in Argentina. The proposal is simple: facilitate youth from various cities to get together to share the stage to show off their Basque dances. It doesn’t require a lot of resources, but it is imperative that the dancers arrive to a place where they feel welcomed and cared for, at easy, as at home. And that is what everyone finds in Cañuelas and that is why they return year after year and repeatedly tell members of Denak Bat, yes.
This year, 2016, 10 clubs participated in the dance show:
- Euzko Exea from La Plata
- Lagun Onak from Pergamino
- Zingirako Euskaldunak from Chascomús
- Toki Eder from José C. Paz
- Guillermo Larregui from Chacabuco
- Euskal Sustraiak from Trenque Lauquen
- Laurak Bat from Buenos Aires
- Denak Bat from Lomas de Zamora
- Zazpirak Bat from Rosario
- Denak Bat from Cañuelas
In all, more than 100 dancers.
Besides the dance performances, there were more proposals like the traditional Tamborrada (see here) and live music with Maral and the trio Daniel “Jopo” Galfredo.
On Sunday, to conclude the festivities, the Euskal Etxea choir performed part of its repertoire, and later everyone present shared paella. To say farewell to their guests, the hosts presented a souvenir to each participating delegation.
April 2
Veteran’s Day is celebrated in Argentina on April 2 along with the Fallen of the War of the Falklands. Organizers and guests united to remember the special date, guests with the music of Maral, dantzaris from various Basque clubs danced an “Aurresku” in honor of the heroes form the Falklands. It was a very emotional moment since former soldier and dantzari, Raul Grillo, was also present as an active member of Toki Eder.
