The anniversary dinner to celebrate Gure Txoko’s 34^th birthday, 24 in its current location, took place on February 25^th.  Members and friends of the club gathered in a wonderful atmosphere that was full of singing from both lands, thanks to Enrique Castro, Nati and Luis Mariano (voices) and percussion by Joseba Aramayo.  The club already begun its Mus tournament and has also announced an outing to a cider house on April 1-2. 

Valladolid, Spain.   The traditional annual dinner to celebrate Gure Txoko’s anniversary was full of the good mood that characterizes the club and its members.  It also included the special contribution of “some friends who delighted us with typical songs from this land and our homeland,” Sonia Hernandez Maiztegui explained to EuskalKultura.com.  “We would like to thank composer, Enrique Castro, singers Nati and Luis Mariano and the percussion by Joseba Aramayo, for their contribution to the good time we had at the event.”

The club held the first games of its Mus tournament on Saturday, March 4th.  With the finals taking place in May.

As is also tradition at this time of year, the club has also organized its outing to Euskal Herria, “to taste the new cider crop, although we also take advantage of our sagardotegi cider tasting trip to the Basque Country to visit different areas and know it better, so this year we are going to visit Oñati, Donostia, Hondarribia and Txingudi Bay, besides Astigarraga.”

The trip is planned for April 1-2 and includes the following itinerary according to club sources:

Saturday, Day 1: Travel to Oñati where a guide is waiting for us for a visit of the church, university and some other things.  Around 20:30 we will go to the Iretza Cider House in Astigarraga.  After finishing the barrels there are two options, back to sleep or to go to Donostia first.

Sunday, Day 2: We will leave for Hondarribia.  For anyone wishing to, Mass is at 12:30 at the church, Santa María de la Asunción, in the old part (Nagusia Street).  Constructed on a wall, in Gothic style with baroque additions and Renaissance entrance from the CV and the XVI centuries.  This is where the infant Maria Teresa from Austria, daughter of Felipe IV, married the King of France, Luis XIV.  Things to see in Hondarribia: the door of Santa Maria, that used to be the main entrance to the city; the Marina neighborhood, the old fisherman’s area; Higer lighthouse, Monastery Guadalupe; Zuloaga House; walk along the jetty; the Bay of Txingudi, at the mouth of the Bidasoa.
