More than 50 artists on stage at the Annual Dance Festival organized by the Urrundik Basque Association in Parana

Basque cultural reference in Parana and this area of the country, the Basque-Argentine Association, Urrundik, provided the community with another edition of the Festival of Basque Dances at the local 3rd of February Theater.  Along with the hosts dance group, the program was complete with dancers of tango and other local folkloric groups.  The event was very successful and received a lot of media coverage. 

Parana, Argentina.   The Festival of Basque Dances, organized annually by the Urrundik Association in Parana at the February 3rd Theater, was held on September 18.  The show began around 8:30pm and was run by members all the dances groups of the association.  The txikis danced “Orpo Punta,” “Makil Dantza,” and closed with a kalejira.  The intermediates and adults performed “Gipuzkoano,” Baialaos,” “Kontradantza,” “Dantza from Azkoitia,” San Migel of Arretxinaga,” “Akelarre, ”Ezpatadantza from Amaia,” “Uztai Txikia,” “Fandango & Arin Arin.”

To give the show a local touch, the couple formed by Pablo Medici and Noelia Bertin danced a tango and milonga, and add a touch of Argentine folklore. They brought to the stage Oscar Giles, Fabián Pereira, Elisa Gigena, Macarena Buscema, Natalia Franco, Eugenia López and Juan Carlos Borrás. The singer Mirna Donda was also present. She used to be a member of the Choir of the Theater Colon, in Buenos Aires and accompanied Urrundik at the show performing a Basque lullaby.

One more year the event was a total success.  From the organization they explained that they provided a group of 50 artists on stage and that "the audience also accompanied us filling the superb facilities at the Municipal February 3rd Theater."  “We had previous coverage by the local media and later very favorable reviews, with the diffusion of great images on Channel 11 in Parana,” Juan Carlos Borras, Urrundik president told EuskalKultura.com.

More Presentations in September

During the month of the immigrant, youth from Urrundik received several invitations to represent Euskal Herria at community festivals.  On September 11th the adult group danced at the XII Immigrant Festival in San Benito; on the 4th a delegation from the club participated in the planting of an olive tree in the Community Plaza and a group of dantzaris performed a selection of traditional dances at the February 3rd Theater.
