Buenos Aires, Argentina. Throughout the week Euskera Day Festivities are taking place in Basque clubs all over the country. Remember that in the southern hemisphere that this date coincides with the end of the school year, and so many institutions celebrate ENE with their end of year activities.
Gure Txokoa, Azul
-WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 3: there are three activities. At 2pm the club will welcome children of five years of age, kindergarten students from the local Jardin #1, who will celebrate Euskera’s birthday with crafts. Teachers will share some Basque words to them and will talk to them about activities taking place at the club. At 8pm, screeming of the film Eight Basque Last Names, with the participation of local film buff, Cacho Nebbia. Admission is free and open to the public. Throughout the day, neighboring business will display their names in Basque; so the neighborhood bakery will be “okindegia,” the bookstore “liburudenda,” and the hairdressers, “ileapaindegia,” among others.
Euskaldunak Denak Bat, Arrecifes
-WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 3: the club will broadcast the significance of the International Day of Euskera on local media and will publish a video for ENE with the participation of Basque students, club members and Friends. On Wednesday the 10th, they will also have a game night in Basque at their facilities.
Unión Vasca, Bahía Blanca
-WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 3: festivities will begin at 8pm with a danborrada and later, students and teachers will take orders and thanks in Basque for Saint Francis Xavier. Those participating in the ceremony will be given, along with their request or thanks, green, red, or White candles that will be tossed into the water and that will float during the entire ceremony. Later there will be singing and an “Agurra.” There will also be games in Basque, and a diaporama will be showed. To finish there will be a sing-along with songs learned throughout the year, and a pro-Basque language poster exhibit. There will be pintxos and beverages and the event is open to the entire community.
Laurak Bat, Buenos Aires
-SATURDAY, DECEMBER 13: Laurak Bat will celebrate Euskera Day along with the end of year activities with a BBQ dinner at the club. There will be videos and Basque karaoke.
Euskaltzaleak, Buenos Aires
-FRIDAY, DECEMBER 12: Starting at 20:30 at the headquarters of the Casal of Catalunya, Chacabuco 863. During the evening there will be a concert by the club’s choir an exhibit of the Basque students’ activities – videos, songs and games – and a presentation of the pandero/tambourine and dance workshops. -WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 3: Representatives of the Basque Club will talk about the Euskera Day and its significance in local press and radios.
Gure Txokoa, Córdoba
-WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 3: starting at 5pm at the clubhouse, there will be a ceremony to present students their diplomas. There will be Basque songs, games, polkas guided by members of the Cordobatarrak Dancers and a formal dinner.
Gerora, Córdoba
-WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 3: starting at 18:30 in Auditorium B of the College of Languages, Velez Sarsfield 187, the 6th conference on Minority Languages with representatives from Quichua, Idish, Ladino, Piamontes and Basque. Certificates will also be presented to the university students. Students from the Txistu workshop will play and Txotx! will dance THURSDAY, DECEMBER 4 book release in Basque, with poetry by Basque authors in bilingual books (Basque-Spanish) in public plazas, under the motto “Euskara jalgi hadi plazara.” There will also be an artistic intervention: Zirt Art, in the Plaza San Martin.

WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 3: there will be a meeting at the club’s Atahualpa Yupanqui Library to update members and the community with a special mention of the Euskal Etxea’s newsletter.
Eusko Aterpea, Gral. Rodríguez
-THURSDAY, DECEMBER 4: as part of the International Day of Euskera celebration, the Eusko Aterpea Basque club will celebrate the 15th anniversary of when they began teaching Basque at the club. Under the motto “Euskaldunen Hitza” the Basque group, teachers and students will hold a commemorative ceremony and a dance. The event begins at 19:30 and will include the participation of members from the Pilar Basque club.
Toki Eder, José C. Paz
-SATURDAY, DECEMBER 6: starting at 16:30, at the clubhouse, there will be a get-together of Basque language students, members and Friends to celebrate the end of the semester. There will be entertainment, riddles and snacks.
Basque Language and Culture lectureship at the UNLP, La Plata
MONDAY, DECEMBER 8: end of semester lunch and to celebrate Euskera Day. During lunch the universality of the Basque language will be proclaimed. Lunch will take place at the Modelo restaurant, in La Plata.

-SUNDAY, DECEMBER 14 (TBA): ENE will be celebrated as part of the local Festival of Collectivities. There will be a txistorra stand, and the choir will sing in Basque with the cantinera 2014 also being chosen.

-WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 3: at 18:30, tribute and floral offering for the International Day of Euskera at the sapling of the Tree of Gernika, Plaza San Martin. At 20:00 paleta tournament at the Teyu Cuare Cancha, at the Denak Bat Basque club. FRIDAY DECEMBER 5 at 19:00 showing of Eight Basque Last Names and presentation of the “Euskara Denontzat” magazine. -SATURDAY, DECEMBER 13: Genealogist, Laura Nobile will give a talk “What the Son Wishes to Forget, the Grandson wishes to Remember.” Open to the entire community, admission is free. At the end of the talk, Basque students will do some performances and then will serve dinner. Tickets cost $150 and reservations need to be made by December 9th.

-FRIDAY, DECEMBER 5: inauguration of the Basque club library “Angela Catalina Azcona Carranco, who was the first club treasurer and who, when the club still didn’t have a locale, built the library in her home with more than 200 books, and let members use them for reference and to check out.
